Canada geese over the railway bridge by the cafe, low and close, the slag-laden freight train freeze-framed on its way past: life can be good but we must not say so, never say so, consider this sentence unwritten.

These geese of yours are baffling me. The nearest, a whitefront. The farthest, looks like a dark morph snow goose. The one to the right, a very pale-looking whitefront. But geese in collections interbreed and produce intermediate forms.
